Pregnancy is a perfectly natural and ubiquitous phenomenon. Since the time of Adam and Eve, women have been having babies and so .... what could be more natural than that? Why all the fuss?

Well, today is the era of planning your moves and go getting the best life has to offer. Yet, even today we have unplanned pregnancies and young couples embarking on parenthood without the slightest knowledge of what parenting is all about.

A lot of issues can adversely affect the outcome of pregnancy and lay waste many a dream.

Pre pregnancy counselling covers the following aspects of pregnancy :

  1. Any medical illness of the mother that could be harmful to the mother or fetus.
  2. Blood group incompatibility between the couple.
  3. Genetic or metabolic diseases on either side of the family ( paternal or maternal ).
  4. Completion of vaccination to the mother prior to planning of family.
  5. Detection and treatment of maternal infections (which may harm the fetus) prior to pregnancy.
  6. If the woman is on any drug, then advising whether she can continue it or offering safer alternatives as the case may be.
  7. Advising the couple regarding the fertile period so that they stand a better chance to conceive and advising tests for fertility whenever applicable.
  8. Starting pre pregnancy folic acid to the mother.
  9. Preparing the couple for the pregnancy psychologically.
  10. Providing a better understanding of the responsibilities of parenting.
  11. Guiding the prospective parents on positive parenting and mutual cooperation through pregnancy and later.

Pre pregnancy counselling would thus ensure that the couple enter the world of parenting prepared to take on the responsibilities and dealing positively with the changes it would bring to their life.

What we offer at Gyneguide :

Couple counselling sessions in privacy with Dr Suman (MD), gynaecologist and a psychologist.

The couple would be given a session summary and recommendations for blood tests and vaccinations, if any. This would be followed by a review of the reports later.
